Lomi Lomi Therapy – A Holistic Treatment for Body and Soul

The word Lomilomi translates to “Hawaiian massage.” In the Hawaiian language, the term “lomi” means “to weave,” “to rub,” or “to caress.” Traditionally, this type of massage was performed in four main contexts:
- As a healing procedure used by Hawaiian healers;
- As a digestive aid during festive meals for tribal chiefs;
- As a restorative massage within the family;
- By masters of Hawaiian martial arts.
However, not everyone had the right to practice this type of massage. Those chosen to learn the Lomilomi practices were selected at birth based on significant signs such as weather phenomena or birthmarks (especially on the head and neck). Even so, children were only formally selected at the age of five and then initiated into the art of Lomilomi for nearly a decade. It was believed, however, that achieving true mastery required a lifetime of study.
Like many other Hawaiian rituals, the Lomilomi massage was always accompanied by prayer and meditation. It was thought that during this ritual, the practitioner was in complete communion with nature and that no one should disturb or distract them, as this would break the connection, and the patient would no longer receive the full benefits of the Lomilomi massage.
Today, Lomilomi remains a truly special massage. A practitioner of this massage is not only skilled in the general art of massage but is also deeply versed in Hawaiian traditions, mastering the specific techniques unique to this practice. Lomilomi massage represents the first step toward a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
Now considered a holistic therapy, Lomilomi helps you relax, eliminate toxins from your body, and recharge with positive energy. We invite you to experience the Lomilomi therapy for yourself!
